Ted Abernathy

Ted Abernathy, MD, FAAP

Dr. Abernathy was raised in Houston Texas and is a true Texan at heart. After a short period in New Orleans, LA, he went to the Virginia Military Institute where he graduated as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.

Dr. Abernathy attended the Medical College of Virginia and after receiving his medical degree, he continued there as a Pediatric Intern and then Resident.

After residency, he completed an Adolescent Medicine Fellowship and initially worked in the Adolescent Clinic at the Medical College of Virginia. Missing the infants and children, Dr. Abernathy started private practice in Richmond Virginia with a dream and a vision to develop a pediatric practice that could meet all of the needs of his pediatric and adolescent patients.

Dr. Abernathy has three children and currently 7 grandchildren. His early special interests outside of medicine lead him to a commercial pilot’s license and a career in aviation as he developed his medical practice. His hobbies include scuba diving, his grandchildren, and he is currently writing a book about how children grow.

His special interests now are the operation of the office and the growth of the Better Life Center.

Peter P. Blakey

Peter P. Blakey, MD, FAAP

Dr. Blakey was born in Auburn, NY and was raised in large family of 12 children in Massachusetts.

He attended Harvard University for his undergraduate work and after graduation went on the University of Vermont for his medical training. After graduating there, Dr. Blakey made his way South and completed his Pediatric Internship and Residency at the Medical College of Virginia / Virginia Commonwealth University.

Dr. Blakey loves the out of doors and can often be seen riding his bike or running the streets near the James River. Dr. Blakey has 3 children and one grandchild.

His special interests are Complimentary and Integrative Medicine. He has a keen interest in the treatment and prevention of childhood obesity and is currently working to integrate several programs in the Richmond area into an all inclusive obesity program for children ages 6 to 12.

Julia H. Mills

Julia H. Mills, MD, FAAP

Dr. Mills was born in Athens Georgia and raised in Alexandria Virginia. Dr. Mills attended Mary Washington College as an undergraduate and after graduation completed her medical training at the Medical College of Virginia / Virginia Commonwealth University.

Dr. Mills also completed her Pediatric Internship and Residency at the Medical College of Virginia. She joined Dr. Abernathy at the same time Dr. Blakey joined and together they formed what is now known as Pediatric & Adolescent Health Partners.

Dr. Mills has two children. Her hobbies include running, golf, and horseback riding. She is an accomplished participant in Tae Kwan Do and has earned her Brown Belt.

Her special interests include Sports Medicine and Obesity treatment and prevention in children.

Gordon N. Kellett

Gordon N. Kellett, MD, FAAP

Dr. Kellett was born in Ironwood Michigan. He attended the College of William and Mary for his undergraduate work. After graduation he completed his medical training at the Medical College of Virginia / Virginia Commonwealth University.

After receiving his medical degree, Dr. Kellett served two years as a Pediatrician in the US Army Medical Corps stationed in Butzbach, Germany. He continued his training and completed his Pediatric Internship and Residency at the Medical College of Virginia. After this training Dr. Kellett continued at the University in the Department of Pediatrics as a Clinical Professor.

Dr. Kellett joined Pediatric & Adolescent Health Partners as the fourth physician. He brought to the group the special talent of teaching and has continued to not only teach his fellow physicians but is also active in the medical training of medical students and Pediatric Residents.

Dr. Kellett has two children and four grandchildren. His hobbies are Volleyball in which he competes on a National Level Men's Volleyball team. He also loves football, as long as it is the Baltimore Ravens, and photography. Over the years he has become a connoisseur of wines and his knowledge of wine is well respected.

His special interests are Asthma Care of children and young adolescents, as well as ADHD.

Joel C. Everett

Joel C. Everett

Dr. Everett was born in Washington DC and grew up in that area. He attended Washington and Lee University and became a true “Mink.” After graduation he completed his medical training at the Medical College of Virginia / Virginia Commonwealth University.

His Pediatric Internship and Residency was also done at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Everett joined the growing group at Pediatric and Adolescent Health Partners as the fifth member.

Dr. Everett is a “River Man” -- he loves to fly fish in any river he can find. He is also an avid canoeist and enjoys all aspects of a lazy day on the Rivanna River.

His special interests in Pediatric Medicine are Asthma and Infectious disease.

Patricia D. Mulreany

Patricia D. Mulreany, MD, FAAP

Dr. Mulreany was born in Washington DC and was raised in the surrounding Virginia area of DC. She attended the University of Virginia and after graduation went on to her medical training at the Medical College of Virginia / Virginia Commonwealth University.

Like her partners, she completed her Pediatric Internship and Residency at the Medical College of Virginia.

Dr. Mulreany has three children. Besides her family, her hobbies include walking, reading and vacation.

Her special Pediatric Medical interests are mental health, and promoting children's abilities and help with their disabilities.

Margaret R. Campbell

Margaret R. Campbell, MD, FAAP

Dr. Campbell was born and raised in Martinsburg, West Virginia. She attended the University of Virginia and after graduation completed her medical training at the Jefferson Medical College.

Dr. Campbell came to the Medical College of Virginia / Virginia Commonwealth University for her Pediatric Internship and Residency.

Her hobbies include running, cooking, and her very important three daughters. Dr. Campbell is an active parent volunteer participant at her youngest child's school.

Her special Pediatric Interests are Adolescents and their physical as well as mental growth and development.

Dr. Campbell will be taking a sabbatical for the immediate future to spend more time this summer with her three girls and husband. We and our patients will miss her and will anxiously await her return to Pediatric Practice.

Colleen Kraft

Colleen Kraft, MD, FAAP

Dr. Kraft was born in Akron, Ohio. She was raised in Ohio and Virginia and attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute for her undergraduate studies.

After graduation from VPI, home of the Hokies, she attended the Medical College of Virginia / Virginia Commonwealth University for her medical training. After graduation, she continued her Pediatric Internship and Residency at the Medical College of Virginia.

Dr. Kraft has three children, and she has traveled extensively to show her children the world and what it has to offer. Her hobbies are music, guitar and vocals, and International Travel doing Medical aid work.

Her special Pediatric Special Interests are Child Advocacy and Public Policy, Children with Special Health Care Needs, Quality Improvement in Pediatric Care, Physician Education in non-traditional settings, and Community Pediatrics and Teaching.

Dr. Kraft is the 2007 President of the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Walter Bundy Professorship Chair at the Pediatric Department of the Medical College of Virginia / Virginia Commonwealth University.

Harry L. Gewanter

Harry L. Gewanter, MD, FAAP, FACR

Dr. Gewanter was born in Brooklyn New York and was raised in the same area. He attended Duke University for his undergraduate studies and then went on to Wayne State University for his medical training.

After graduation, Dr. Gewanter attended the University of Rochester/Strong Memorial Hospital for his Pediatric Internship and Residency. He then performed a fellowship in Pediatric Rheumatology and General Academic Pediatrics and practiced for 2 years in Rochester, NY before moving to Richmond. He has since worked within other practices and at Children's Hospital prior to joining Pediatric & Adolescent Health Partners. Dr. Gewanter was the first Walter Bundy, Jr. Professor of Community Pediatrics at VCU from 1999 - 2001. His additional training, varied knowledge and experience bring an added and unique dimension to Pediatric and Adolescent Health Partners.

Dr. Gewanter has four children. His hobbies include sports, music, electronics and sending emails at all hours of the day and night.

Beyond Pediatric Rheumatology, he has special interests in all issues relating to Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs (CYSHCN), especially the difficulties associated with special education, as well as advocating on behalf of all children and people with disabilities. He is known for his untiring advocacy activities at the local, state and national level.

Sylvia Lee

Sylvia R. Lee, MD

Pediatric & Adolescent Health Partners is excited and pleased to announce the arrival of our new partner, Dr. Sylvia Lee.

Dr. Lee is a native of Northern Virginia. She earned her undergraduate degree in psychology at the University of Virginia and then completed her medical degree at Virginia Commonwealth University, School of Medicine in 2004.

Dr. Lee remained in Richmond and completed her Pediatric Internship and Residency also at VCU/MCV. She brings to the practice her experiences of being a new mom, and a secondary language of Polish! She has a special interest in asthma, eczema and breastfeeding.

Dr. Lee and her husband, who is also a physician, live in Richmond with their son Carter.
